Unlike other high rise projects in the area, Winthrop Club has garnered ample sales to clear its financing hurdle. Due to the current gridlock in the credit markets high- and mid-rise condominium programs in Evanston, akin to the rest of the region, have taken it on the chin of late. Through the third quarter of this year, there were a total of twelve net sales among eight new-construction condominium programs in Evanston, four of which either lost sales or recorded no new contracts thus far this year.

cob is a building material consisting of clay, sand, straw, water, and earth, similar to adobe (language via Wikipedia). It is considered a green building material because it relies solely on local material and requires very little energy to produce.

This first outlet is a renovation of an existing restaurant to include a restaurant, bakery, and retail store and is seeking LEED® for Commercial Interiors certification.

This a project designed by an architect as his own family residence. It is another example of a budget-conscious but reasonably responsible design. Most of the green investment goes into energy-saving, but easily achievable features - rigid exterior insulation with spray foam insulation between studs, high-efficiency mechanical systems, and an Energy Star roof.
